This award-winning program brings together sixteen collegiate teams to design, build, and maintain sustainable, solar-powered homes, providing a platform for academic institutions to showcase innovative designs that promote sustainability and conservation.

For the GRoW Home, the focus was on integrating year-round food cultivation within the home, encouraging residents to engage with their surroundings much like a captain navigating a sailboat—harnessing solar, wind, and thermal forces for optimal efficiency. Designed for Buffalo, NY’s extreme winters and mild swing seasons, the GRoW Home prioritizes flexibility and functionality, from its adaptive interior layout to its multi-functional furniture, ensuring a comfortable and sustainable lifestyle. By fostering awareness of seasonal energy consumption and food production, the home demonstrates how sustainable habits can be seamlessly integrated into daily life.
